Translate? Once again...

Remember what I said in my previous post? Oh wait, you probably didn't read it. Anyway, I said that Google+ identifies text not in your language and gives the options to translate it for you. I'm reconsidering that now.
Why? Take a look at this post, please...

No, I'm not sure why there's a blue do at the top in the white space... Probably an accident.

That's not English, really. It's written with the Greek alphabet, I think. Yet, when it's "translated"...

It gets translated to... Greek again. (I think. Correct me if that's incorrect.)

This makes me wonder what Google+'s translate is really supposed to do. Maybe it's just a temporary glitch. They might have been changing things across Google and done something to the translate on accident (or on purpose, possibly). By the way, today I noticed that the profile picture at the top right of the page when you log into Gmail has become circular, so it's possible that they've been changing stuff on Google+ as well... 

Either way, the translate option seems to have suddenly "broken", so to speak, since the last time I posted about it.

Translate? --Technology These Days

Google+ has a feature that is supposed to recognize things that are not in your language and provide the option of translating them. In theory, it's a good idea, but I don't think the language recognition is superb.
For example, I was on the Google+ page of Connor (author of There's Always a Catch) when I saw this:

In my opinion, that's obviously in English. I decided to see what Google+ thought the post meant, so I clicked on "Translate." Lo and behold...

I'm wondering why the program might have thought Connor's English to be something in another language. Occasionally, I come across a horribly misspelled comment or a post with the "Translate" option, but that is somewhat understandable. Here, however, there are no misspellings or symbols not used in the English language. What other language could "Tickle Me Elmo deserved to die" possibly be anyway?

Yesterday, social studies class was supposedly "use-your-phone-that-you-shouldn't-have-in-school-not-that-anyone-actually-cares-for-educational-purposes-and-no-Minecraft-is-not-educational" hour. Anyway, GM and I used a school laptop to blog. First we impersonated N. Then we visited I Can Write Funny, the blog. Suddenly, I remembered a text analyzer website I'd come across. I said something like, "GM, have I ever showed you that blog text analyzer that tries to figure out the author's gender?"
Anyway, we ended up analyzing this blog (results- 62% sure it's written by a woman) and then analyzed I Can Write Funny (original results- female, but quite gender neutral, results from this morning- 52% male)

Later at home, I tested other random blogs. Strange results though....
For example...
Ms. Murphy's World Explorers Blog- written by a man (78%)
Kyrrith's Fangirling by a Fangirl blog- written by a man (61%)
Theo's seemingly abandoned blog which has roughly 130 words  - "Sorry, we could not extract enough text from http://theosquared.blogspot.com/. We could only find 1 words. We need more than 300 words to analyze a web page. More text gives better result!"

Technology These Days - CES 2013

Here are some products from the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show.




YotaPhone. It's an Android smartphone with two screens.  (4.3-inch, 1,280 by 720-pixel touchscreen on front and a 4.3-inch E Ink display on back) The reason for having the second screen is to be able to view two things without as much work. For example, you can put a map on one side and check your email on the other. Different, certainly. (Still a prototype.)







The iPotty. You might have seen it elsewhere, and the name and picture are pretty self explanatory. Basically, it's a training toilet on which you can attach an iPad. Ridiculous, in my opinion.




The Pebble smartwatch. This has a lot for being a "watch."
1.26-inch 144 × 168 pixel monochrome LCD display with backlight, a vibrating motor ,a magnetometer, ambient light sensors and a three-axis accelerometer, communicates with iOS and Android devices through Bluetooth, apps, and charged through a magnetic modified USB cable.

Minime personalized plush. This looks super creepy to me, by the way. Minime takes a person's photo and makes a plush doll with the person's face on it in 3-D. Go to their website and take a look if you want....

Sorry i haven't done one of these in a long time but frankly there was noting good to write about

and i am like "hey me from the past
1. the ipad mini sucks
2. they had other things too


1. The ipad mini

• it sucks 
• it is 7.9 inches
• same resolution as ipad 2
• not retina display
• smaller version of ipad 

They just had to get rid of the 3rd gen though

• stupid name-ipad 3rd gen had retina display
• new processor
• no real exterior changes

3. new imac

• this is actually pretty good
• not that expensive compared to other stylish all in ones
• cool awesome welding process (mentioned in keynote-i loved how the guy quoted indie from mymusic"you've probably never heard of it")
• so thin and light
• noooooo they took out the optical drive and u have to buy one for 80$

4. new mac mini

• i actually kinda like this good design and it actually has ports
• i loved the inside view they gave us but space is being wasted

5. 13 inch mac book pro

• okay i guess
• no optical drive but yes hdmi, barely any ports
•  why do u need retina display

my favorite thing about google is that pretty much everything they do is free or cheap because 95% of their revenue comes from ads *maybe u should try that apple*

i love searching and going on to google translate and looking at the earth and  directions and blah blah blah

my favorite tangible object by them would either by the chromebox and the nexus 7 *apple, why don't u try a  $200 tablet*
the only problem with the nexus 7 is no rear facing camera

For some reason, no one ever really comments or gives us feedback on the Technology posts. I personally really enjoy writing and reading them So do N and Wendy. Right, N? Anyway,  but since you guys don't comment, I guess you either don't like them or love them so much you don't have the word to express your undying affection. I'm assuming it's the first one, but only you people who read our blog can prove me right or wrong. Please leave a comment telling your true feelings about the Technology posts.

Technology These Days- Google Gravity and more

What happened to Google?!?

 

Don't worry, it wasn't a massive earthquake  or a crazy virus. Instead, it's a little project called Google Gravity by "Mr. doob," a self proclaimed "Non-creative award-losing junior developer" according to his Twitter.

technology these days samsung

samsung is a company that makes computers phones tvs refrigerators and much more

as you probably know samsung released the best selling android phone a few months ago. the samsung galaxy s3 .personaly i find it a lot better than the iphone
i also like the "tec tiles" but they pretty much do the same thing as qr codes
the s3 has a nice display with vivid colors
it is good because it has 4g lte
voice control beats siri
awesome picture in everything
s beam is beast

the chrome books and chrome boxes are pretty fast but need more hard drive space

the galaxy notes are pretty good but the display is way to big for a phone
the galaxy note 10.1 is cool about equivilant with the i pad
i like the s pen

i love samsungs smart 3d hd blue ray players
they are so thin

the samsung smart tvs are a lot better than other tvs on the market
my favorite tv is the Samsung New 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) LED 7500 Series Smart TV

i want a home theater system in my house.

New Home Theater System with Vacuum Tube & Digital Amp (HT-E6730W) is pretty nice

the samsung cameras are not very popular because they are not that good
a really nice feature is that they are wifi enabled so you can share photos fairly easily

the laptops that samsung makes are really powerfel but slim and stylish i like the series 9 

the all in one desktops are nice . a good feature they have is that they can fold flat so many usb ports(6)

the moniters are relly good i am looking forward to buy a 3d one they design is realy strange 

this is all because i dont have enough time to write about the printers and home appliences

Technology These Days- apple

apple is a horrible company all they do is go around suing companies for patent right to get millions and billions of dollars.
as many of you know a couple of weeks ago apple released some stuff the iPhone 5 is pretty much the same thing as the 4s. it is taller but not wider which is a horrible idea. a 16:9 ratio is horrible by the the time we get to i phone 10 the screen will by 10 feet tall but 4 inches wide. also the camera is better because the added a sapphire lens cover which is nice. its low light capabilities are amazing. its thinner and lighter but who cares. the new a6 processor is pretty good but if you ask me they should a couple of gigabytes of memory. its about time they added lte and panorama but panorama was on the apple store like two years ago.
the front facing camera is now 720 pixels which is awesome. lightning connector is good because it is reversible  but all apple is doing is trying to get money on the adapters. ear pods are good finally they got rid of the glass back it is so breakable

ios 6 is not that great the full screen safari is good the passbook is pretty good but maps is horrible it is even worse than mapquest they should have kept google maps and its about time they got rid of youtube because it is horrible google made their own app that is 100 times better

iPod nano is pretty good but they should really put the camera back on it

ipod touch is pretty good but they should sell a 16 gb ipod 5th generation the "loop" is horrible no one is going to use it and why did they put the black thing on the back again it looks ugly but the new colors are awesome i like the black one nice a5 chip
