Right now, there is a cliche on the Internet, and it is "Happy Thanksgiving!".
But of course GM has to disagree.
Have you ever considered how terrible Thanksgiving is to turkeys, domesticated or not?
Most of you say "Poor turkey," and continue eating, carving, or cooking the turkey. However, this is not true sympathy. If you do that and not anything else about the turkey then you don't really care about them.
You should care.
Why?
If one day you turned on the TV and saw a breaking news report about how thousands of people were crammed into pens with no personal space, fed hormones and chemicals, lived and slept in their own poop, and were mass murdered at a certain time of year in a factory to be packaged and processed into mystery meats or sold whole and eaten by people, you and the rest of the world would be absolutely horrified.
But, this is what happens to millions of poultry birds every Thanksgiving. Actually, the description that I just gave you was probably 5 times better than what really happens to domesticated birds.
Domesticated fowl live painful, miserable, short lives.
There is one thing that irks me even more than the plight of the turkey. Remember the paragraph that started with the word "If"? (If you don't, now is a good time to make sure you have no mental problems.)
If you do remember it, then let me ask you several hypothetical questions. If there was a news report on the horrible living conditions and life of the turkey, how long would it be? How long would it be talked about? How many people would stay glued to their TVs waiting for an update on who would be prosecuted for the torture of the turkey?
The answer is "A lot less than if the news report were about people being mistreated". This is because people value their own lives over the lives of animals or basically any other living things. The only reason this would be justified is if you are starving and impoverished in a third-world country or something just as bad.
However, turkey mass-murdering happens in America, where every person is doing better than that person in the third-world country.
This is why you should start caring for someone other than yourselves(like a turkey) since you have everything you need at your fingertips Take a couple steps back, past the celebrities and politics, and see the big picture. (not literally)
Then you would find out that the Earth itself is dying, turkeys are being mass murdered, and most first-world dwellers preoccupy themselves with stupid politics, diet plans, and celebrities( none of which are necessary for anything but mass stupidity) in a unfortunately successful act to convince themselves that there is nothing wrong.
Which is why you should never use diet plans.

Well, turkeys aren't the only animals on Earth being murdered! In America, pork and beef are definitely eaten more than turkey. Besides, as a survival instinct, you really have to value your life over other lives. Unless you're depressed and suicidal, you want to stay alive for as long as possible even if you don't have any good reason. I do, however, agree with all you said about diet plans, politicians, celebrities, and people and third world countries, and the like.
ReplyDeleteBut you are not dying and have everything you need to live at every time. Plus this post was about Thanksgiving and I don't know anyone besides me who had beef for Thanksgiving. Or pork. I don't mean ham by "pork" though, because I had a limited amount of time to write this.
Deleteha. I had turkey and ribs and chicken for thanksgiving. And I didn't eat that much turkey, because I liked the other stuff better.
DeleteOh by the way Grace, check your email for my email about a meeting on Sunday!
ReplyDeletei ate 2 much ice cream, and one little piece of turkey, with stuffing.
